:: Choosing a Suitable Venue
Broadly speaking venues can be split into three groups - Your home/office, hired halls, and hotels/reception centres.
Your Home/Office
This is the most popular option in terms of cost and comfort. If the house is too small to accommodate everyone, a marquee/canvas annexe can be added for a reasonable price - the cost of this will depend on the lining, flooring, lighting, tables, chairs, and additional toilet facilities. We can advise on suitable marquee arrangements and suppliers.
Hired Hall
When using a house is not possible, a hired hall is a good alternative. Hired premises vary enormously, from a church hall to a palatial country house, but cost is not a good guide to quality in this area. There are lovely places at modest cost and poor halls at inflated prices.
We have worked in most local halls and can advise on locations, value for money and suitability for your event.
Hotel/Reception Centre
There are advantages to using these, mostly to do with convenience. Assuming that these are run professionally, everything is arranged for you - food, wines, bars, music, accommodation (hotels only) and in some cases wedding ceremonies.
The main drawback is the cost - your function is likely to cost 2-3 times as much as employing an outside caterer and other service suppliers directly. Furthermore, in a large hotel/reception centre you would be one of many functions going on and would have to share facilities with other groups.
